Kolderstok is a Dutch (Netherlands-based) manufacturer of wooden ship model kits, founded in June 2015 after its founder completed a scratch-built model of the Batavia in 2014 and decided to market a line of kits depicting Dutch ships. The company name refers to the "kolderstok" (whipstaff), the old steering device used on ships before the invention of the ship's wheel. Kolderstok specializes in highly detailed wooden model kits of 17th (and some 18th) century Dutch Golden Age vessels, including famous VOC (Dutch East India Company) ships and vessels associated with renowned Dutch naval commanders such as Michiel de Ruyter, Maarten Tromp, the Evertsen brothers, and Adriaen Banckert. Notable subjects include the Batavia, De Zeven Provinciën, the Duyfken, and De Halve Maen, designed using historical images and existing ship models for accuracy. Kits typically include laser-cut keel, frames and decks, hull and deck planking, masts, yards, rigging materials, and a full set of hand-cast resin ornaments, generally aimed at intermediate to experienced modelers, with difficulty levels ranging from beginner to very advanced. Though a relatively young company, Kolderstok has become a well-regarded name in Dutch wooden ship modeling and ships its kits worldwide.
