Prototype ship: HMS Winchelsea (1764)
A plank-on-bulkhead scratch-style project modeling the 32-gun Niger-class frigate HMS Winchelsea, sold by Chuck Passaro's Syren Ship Model Company in laser-cut chapter installments rather than as one boxed kit. Chapter 1 supplies laser-cut bulkheads and backbone parts (or printable patterns for scratch cutting your own), letting builders pace out the cost and choose scratch-build vs. laser-cut options as they progress. Based on original Admiralty plans and the contemporary National Maritime Museum model, it is pitched as a bridge project between standard kits and full scratch-building, aimed at more experienced modelers.
