ROKS Dokdo (LPH-6111)
Active
ROKS Dokdo (LPH-6111) is the lead ship of South Korea's Dokdo-class amphibious assault ships, operated by the Republic of Korea Navy. She is formally classified as a Landing Platform Helicopter (LPH)/amphibious assault ship rather than a true fleet carrier, but her full-length flight deck and flat-top hull give her the silhouette of a light helicopter carrier, which is the closest match among standard modeling categories.

History
Specifications
The ship was launched 12 July 2005 at Hanjin Heavy Industries & Constructions in Busan and commissioned 3 July 2007. She displaces 14,300 tons empty and up to 18,800-19,500 tons full load, is 199 m long with a 31 m beam and 7 m draught, and is powered by four SEMT Pielstick 16 PC2.5 STC diesels giving about 23 knots. Armament includes two Goalkeeper CIWS mounts and a RIM-116 Rolling Airframe Missile launcher, and she can carry up to 10-15 helicopters, two LCAC/LSF-II landing craft, roughly 200 vehicles, and 720 marines.
Service history
ROKS Dokdo served as flagship of the Fifth (Rapid Response) Flotilla of the Korean Navy until the 2018 launch of her sister ship ROKS Marado. In March 2010 she assisted in search-and-rescue operations after the sinking of ROKS Cheonan, and in July 2010 she took part in the US-ROK Operation Invincible Spirit exercise. She has also repeatedly exercised alongside US Navy amphibious ships such as USS Bonhomme Richard during the annual Ssang Yong exercises, and in November 2024 hosted trials of the General Atomics Gray Eagle STOL UAV.
Notable facts
The ship is named after the Liancourt Rocks (Dokdo/Takeshima), a group of islets disputed between South Korea and Japan, and Japan's Foreign Ministry formally protested the naming. Her design is clearly influenced by Western amphibious assault ship layouts, with an offset starboard island superstructure and a stern well deck for landing craft; several 1/700 scale injection and resin kits (Academy, Orange Hobby) of the ship have been produced for modelers.
