Resolve (tugboat)
Scrapped (sold 1950 for breaking up)
Resolve was the name ship of the Resolve class (sometimes called the Rollicker or Hunter class), a group of six large ocean-going rescue and salvage tugs built for the Royal Navy to replace the depleted civilian-manned tug fleet of the First World War. The class was the larger, more powerful counterpart to the smaller Saint-class Admiralty tugs, but the ships were still incomplete when the war ended.

History
Specifications
As built, Resolve and her sisters measured roughly 739-842 GRT (about 1,400 tons displacement), with an overall length of about 182 ft, a beam of 34 ft and a draught of 15 ft. They were powered by engines developing 2,400 ihp for a speed of around 14 knots, and were armed with a single 12-pounder gun for defence while on convoy or coastal towing duty.
Service history
Resolve was built in 1918/19 by a combination of yards (Ferguson, Ayrshire Dockyard, Day Summers, and Thornycroft are all associated with the class). Her sister ships were named Respond, Retort, Rollicker, Roysterer, and Rollcall. Resolve remained in Royal Navy service, including through the Second World War, before being sold in 1950 to ship-breakers for scrapping.
Notable facts
Resolve is a popular subject in the model-ship hobby, most notably through a highly detailed 1:48 scale radio-control-capable kit produced by Caldercraft/Jotika, which depicts her twin-screw, ocean-going salvage-tug configuration with optional wartime colour scheme. This should not be confused with a later, unrelated vessel also named Resolve - the former Second World War tug Empire Zona, which was transferred to the Admiralty and renamed Resolve in 1959, well after the earlier Resolve-class ship had already been scrapped.
